More Kindness……

In all my efforts to learn to read, my mother shared fully my ambition and sympathized with me and aided me in every way she could. If I have done anything in life worth attention, I feel sure that I inherited the disposition from my mother. -Booker T. Washington

Yesterday we were on flu watch so I didn’t do an act of kindness. I don’t think Briggs had the flu because his issues were resolved after 6 hours of dry heaving and vomiting up stomach bile. Luckily the rest of the family has not gotten sick yet….. crossing my fingers that we all stay healthy.

So today we managed to do act of kindness 4 & 5.

For act of kindness Number 4 we bought dinner for a family we attend church with. They have a young daughter just about two years old and the mother had surgery on both her feet. Her doctors say it’s going to take her about 6 weeks for her to recover. I remember when I broke my leg and they said it would take me 12 weeks to recover. It was so overwhelming and we were so grateful for all the people who pitched in and helped us out while I was recovering. John took them a meal so that they could just relax and focus on recovering.

Act of kindness #5 was a simple one but hopefully will have a huge impact on someones life one day. While John was taking the meal to the family from church I signed up at http://marrow.org/Home.aspx to be a bone marrow donor. In a week or two I will get a kit and take a couple swabs of my cheek and hopefully we find out that I am a match with someone in need. Over these 62 acts of kindness when ever I can do something that involves cancer I will. I have had a lot of people very close to me fight cancer and are fighting cancer so it is a cause close to my heart. When I graduate from nursing school I hope I one day to find a job working with pediatric oncology patients. I guess its just something that I happen to be very passionate about. Honestly I can’t explain it. I think this act of kindness is one that if you meet the requirments, you should really think about doing. Sure buying a coffee or making someone a meal really makes a positive impact on someones day but by donating marrow you could add years to someones life. You could literally be that persons cure to cancer. Yes it will be an inconvenience to you but from what I understand you are out of the hospital the same day. Please think about it and join me in this act of kindness. You could be someones hero. please go to the website I shared with you or google be the match.
